This course will be team taught by two experts in eastern and western ethics who will infuse in you a true global understanding of ethics. Foundations of Ethics will begin with the study of the philosophical theory of cultural differences. Using this heuristic as a conceptual framework, the course will undertake a close reading of seminal texts in history of western and eastern ethics. The course will culminate in an introduction to applied ethics to demonstrate how these foundational theories can be applied to specific case studies. Foundations of Ethics is a core course in the new Graduate Certificate in Leadership and Ethics program, and is open to all enrolled graduate students who have been accepted into the Siegel Institute program.

You will study historical and contemporary leadership theories that will include transactional, transformational, contingency, and followership. An emphasis will be placed on the moral dimensions of leadership and ethics. In addition, competencies of leaders and followers will be contrasted. You will also gain insights into your own personal leadership strengths through personality/character assessments and the use of case studies. Foundations of Leadership is a core course in the new Graduate Certificate in Leadership and Ethics program, and is open to all enrolled graduate students who have been accepted into the Siegel Institute program.

This course will focus on assessing and building an ethical culture within an organization. Instruction includes study of the legal requirements and developing, implementing, and managing tools for an ethical culture. Topics such as the Sarbanes-Oxley, Federal Sentencing Guidelines, measuring an ethical culture, risk analysis, best practices, and ethical assessment techniques will be discussed. Students will learn to lead in a strong ethical culture that becomes contagious.
